Reversing a Vasectomy

Q. Do I need to bank sperm at the time of vasectomy reversal?
A. It is usually not necessary. Sperm banking, freezing, etc., is terribly expensive and rarely indicated. There are some cases where sperm banking could be advisable. You should discuss your situation with the doctor of your choice. He should be able to tell you if the large extra expense is recommended.
Some vasectomy reversal specialists advertise sperm banking in bold letters. Since they have the overhead of a laboratory, including the substantial salary of a laboratory director to pay, there's a strong tendency to overuse its services. Patients who don't require sperm banking and/or exotic tests end up getting clobbered with huge bills.
Be very wary of any vasectomy reversal doctor who tries attract because he has a "full service andrology laboratory". Andrology laboratories cost a fortune to run. There can be a temptation to do unnecessary tests and unnecessary sperm storage.
Sperm banking is usually unnecessary and often does not increase your chances of conception.
